The permit application date and the local bylaw determine the requirement. Use this guide as a starting point, then confirm the current level with the building department.

What do Part 9 and Part 3 mean in this guide?

Part 9 generally covers houses and small buildings within the limits of Part 9 of the BC Building Code. Part 3 covers larger or more complex buildings. Confirm the code path with the project designer and building department.

Are these requirements confirmed for my project?

No. The entries summarize dated source records and link to municipal information. Confirm the requirement with the building department for the specific project.

Why can Part 3 show separate residential and commercial levels?

Some municipal records list different Energy Step Code or Zero Carbon Step Code levels for Part 3 residential and commercial occupancies. When they differ, this guide shows both.
